A Big Week for iOS: PDFs in FileMaker Go and File/Cloud Access in iWork

It's been a big week in the iOS world. The major news comes from FileMaker Go and the three iWork apps (Numbers, Pages, and Keynote). What's most important is the common thread: the ability to integrate iPad even more closely with other platforms using tools such as email and cloud computing as implemented both by MobileMe's iDisk and by any WebDAV server to which you have access. Together with iOS 4.2 with its support for printing (coming in November), a number of the to-do items for iPad and iPhone have been knocked off the list.

iPad, iPhone, and iPod touch Start Printing Wirelessly with the New iOS Release in November

Apple announced (confirmed, actually) that wireless printing will be part of the free upgrade to iOS to be released in November. The pre-release versions of the software are available to members of Apple's developer program, so the coding can begin now. Presumably, Apple's own iOS software products (iLife, iWork, and FileMaker Go) will be among the first to use this new feature.

Creating ePub Books Using iWork Pages

The August 2010 update to iWork lets you export a Pages word processing document to ePub format. That means you can add it to your iTunes library and synchronize it to iBooks on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch.

This document provides a step-by-step guide to creating those ePub files and managing them. You'll also see the differences in the various formats: this document is downloadable in Pages, PDF, and ePub formats.
