Keynote

It's been a big week in the iOS world. The major news comes from FileMaker Go and the three iWork apps (Numbers, Pages, and Keynote). What's most important is the common thread: the ability to integrate iPad even more closely with other platforms using tools such as email and cloud computing as implemented both by MobileMe's iDisk and by any WebDAV server to which you have access. Together with iOS 4.2 with its support for printing (coming in November), a number of the to-do items for iPad and iPhone have been knocked off the list. 

Apple announced (confirmed, actually) that wireless printing will be part of the free upgrade to iOS to be released in November. The pre-release versions of the software are available to members of Apple's developer program, so the coding can begin now. Presumably, Apple's own iOS software products (iLife, iWork, and FileMaker Go) will be among the first to use this new feature.

Micro-presentations (built on the Pecha-Kucha project) help to tame some of the problems with traditional presentations. 20 x 20 (20 slides for 20 seconds each often with automated advance to the next slide) impose limits that can streamline presentations. Still, 20 x 20 is 6.67 minutes. Add to that the inevitable set-up time (even if it's just one person walking up and asking if the microphone is on), and you're knocking on the door of ten minutes.
