USAspending.gov

Bearing a striking resemblance to the website that's tracking economic stimulus spending (www.recovery.gov), www.usaspending.gov was opened to the public today with the motto, "Where Americans Can See Where Their Money Goes." The IT section is particularly interesting to us.

Check out the sophisticated presentation on the home pages. A bar chart at the left shows budget number for FY09 by agency. Click on a bar, and pie chart for that agency appears at the right showing performance by cost and schedule. The pie cart is clickable for more details.

OK, we know the time-frame for Apple's release of Snow Leopard, the next version of its operating system, and we know the price ($29 for an upgrade from the current version).

There are two things we don't know:

  • What will the next version cost?
  • What does it mean to Apple's business model? And Microsoft's?

Black Wire (from the LA Times)

Ah, the hazards of construction in and around Washington DC. A wonderful article from the LA Times about rapid response to a mysterious cable being cut. Fast service and no fuss about writing off a $300,000 bill from AT&T.
