Apps: New Videos

Virtual Training CompanyVirtual Training Company (VTC)  has released two new videos that I've been working on to help you get started developing apps.

iPhone Web apps are the fastest and easiest way to develop for iPhone. Apple provides Dashcode, an authoring tool, that makes it simple to create them and test them with the iPhone simulator. If you're keeping track of the history of iPhone apps, you'll recognize iPhone Web apps from their first incarnation as Dashboard widgets. Yes, there's a VTC training video for them, but Dashcode, widgets, and apps, have come a long way in the last few years.

Facebook apps have also changed in the last few years since they first came on the scene. The Facebook interface and API have changed dramatically, but, as is the case with iPhone Web apps, it's interesting to see that in both cases the original architecture remains in place. I think that no small amount of the success of iPhone and Facebook comes from their robust and elegant architectures.

Now, you, too, can get into the world of apps.

As is always the case with VTC, the first few videos in each tutorial are available free -- just follow the links here:

There's a new book with an overview of the app marketplace that I'm finishing up now, and I'll be continuing to update the website about this fast-moving technology.

If you have comments, suggestions, or news tips, let me know and I'll follow up.

Thanks.
